Premium trial, billing cancellation, and expiry

This article explains how Eggy BNC Premium trials, PayPal billing, cancellation, and Premium expiry work.

Eggy BNC Premium is optional. The free service remains usable for normal BNC access. Premium unlocks extra convenience features such as more user-managed IRC networks, custom Real Name / GECOS, and Premium IRC Inbox tools where enabled.

Premium access and PayPal billing are separate

There are two separate states:

PayPal billing state
Eggy BNC Premium entitlement state

PayPal billing controls whether future Premium payments can happen. The Eggy BNC Premium entitlement controls whether your account currently has Premium features unlocked.

Cancelling PayPal billing does not immediately remove Premium access. If Premium has already been granted for a trial or billing period, it remains active until the expiry date shown on the dashboard.

Starting a Premium trial

If your account is eligible for a 7-day Premium trial, the dashboard will show the trial option. After PayPal approval and confirmation, Premium unlocks automatically.

The trial expiry is based on the local trial start time plus the configured 7-day period. It is not extended to a later PayPal billing boundary.

The dashboard should show a clear static date, such as:

Trial ends on: 6 Jul 2026 01:50 UTC

or, after billing is cancelled:

Expiring on: 6 Jul 2026 01:50 UTC

Cancelling Premium billing

The dashboard action is:

Cancel Premium billing

This cancels future PayPal billing. It does not immediately downgrade your account.

After cancellation, the Premium Status card should show:

Premium active
Expiring on: <date>
Billing: Cancelled

Premium features stay available until that date.

What happens at expiry

After the expiry date passes, Eggy BNC performs final Premium cleanup. That can include marking Premium inactive, returning the account to Free behaviour, resetting custom Real Name / GECOS to the Free default, and placing surplus user-managed networks into renewal grace if your account is above the Free allowance.

This cleanup is account-specific and does not restart the whole BNC service.

Re-subscribing later

For now, treat cancellation as final for that PayPal subscription. If you want Premium again later, subscribe again from the dashboard.

Open a support ticket if the dashboard shows billing cancelled with no expiry date, Premium disappears immediately after cancellation, or the expiry time looks wrong.
