How IRC Inbox works
IRC Inbox is a dashboard feature for supported IRC private-message activity. It is designed to help you catch up on private messages in a threaded way instead of relying only on your IRC client backlog.
Depending on account state and enabled features, IRC Inbox may support:
- threaded message views
- read/unread state
- hiding and restoring threads
- dashboard replies where enabled
- Premium-only extras
Privacy expectations
IRC Inbox is privacy-sensitive. Non-Premium previews should not expose real private message content. If an Inbox feature is locked, previews should be generic or blurred rather than showing actual PM text.
Dashboard replies
Where dashboard replies are enabled, replies are sent through Eggy BNC's safe external reply worker rather than through a risky custom live ZNC module. This keeps the BNC service stable while allowing supported dashboard replies.
What IRC Inbox is not
IRC Inbox is not a replacement for the IRC network. It does not guarantee delivery if the remote user is gone, the network disconnected, or the message was never received by your BNC.
It is also not a public log. Inbox content should belong to the logged-in user only.
Troubleshooting
If Inbox looks empty, check that your BNC account and network are connected, that the feature is enabled for your account, and that the message type is supported. If replies do not send, open a support ticket with the network name, target nick, approximate time, and any dashboard error.
