Eggy Meme Maker is a free, lightweight XenForo add-on that brings a fully integrated meme creation tool directly into your forum's message editor.

Whether your members want to share a funny gaming screenshot, caption a ridiculous photograph, react to a discussion or simply have some fun, Meme Maker makes the entire process quick, straightforward and accessible to everyone with the appropriate permissions.

There are no external meme websites, accounts, API keys, AI credits or subscription services required. Everything is created directly in the member's browser and uploaded using XenForo's existing attachment system.

Built-in Meme Editor​

Members will find a convenient Make meme button alongside the existing Attach files button in supported forum editors.

Clicking the button opens a dedicated, centred popup where they can upload an image, customise their captions and preview the finished result before adding it to their message.

• Caption colours: Select from several built-in text colours.
• Draggable captions: Reposition captions vertically by dragging them directly on the image.
• Change image: Replace the selected picture without reopening the editor.
• Drag and drop: Drop supported image files directly into the meme creation area.
• Clipboard support: Paste supported images directly into the editor.

The editor supports common image formats including PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and BMP. Animated GIFs are processed as a static image.

Seamless XenForo Message Integration​

One of Meme Maker's biggest advantages is how naturally it integrates with XenForo.

Once a member has finished creating their meme, they simply click Add to post.

The add-on automatically:

1. Generates the completed meme as a PNG image.
2. Uploads it through XenForo's native attachment system.
3. Inserts the uploaded image directly into the message editor at full size.
4. Closes the meme editor after successful insertion.

Members can continue writing their message, preview their reply or publish it normally.

No downloading, manually uploading or clicking additional attachment insertion buttons is necessary.

Images are handled as ordinary XenForo attachments, benefiting from the forum's existing attachment storage, permissions and management functionality.

Additional Export Options​

Members aren't limited to posting their creations.

Copy image: Copy the finished meme to the clipboard where supported by the browser.

Download PNG: Save the generated meme directly to their device for sharing elsewhere.

These options make Meme Maker useful both inside and outside the community.

User Group Permissions​

Administrators have complete control over which members can access Meme Maker.

A dedicated Eggy Meme Maker permission group is available within XenForo's native user group permissions interface.

The Can create and insert memes permission allows administrators to grant or restrict access to specific user groups.

Members without the required permission will not see the Make meme button.

The add-on also respects XenForo's existing posting and attachment restrictions, ensuring that Meme Maker does not bypass the forum's normal access controls.

Meme Maker has been designed to integrate naturally with XenForo 2.3 and its existing styling system.

Only when a member chooses to insert their finished creation does the add-on use XenForo's standard attachment upload functionality.
