Why some channels reject BNC or VPS users

Some IRC channels and networks use broad restrictions against hosted servers, proxies, public BNCs, cloud providers, or unverified ident users.

This can produce messages such as:

unable to join channel (address is banned)

or a channel-specific rejection notice.

Why this happens

Operators may use these restrictions to reduce spam, ban evasion, flooding, or abuse. Unfortunately, broad restrictions can also affect normal users.

If your BNC can connect to the network and join other channels, Eggy BNC is probably working. The channel you tried to join is enforcing its own policy.

Possible fixes

You can try a different approved vhost, services registration, NickServ login, or contacting the channel operators. None of these are guaranteed.
