What ~ident means

If IRC shows your identity like this:

~username@host

the ~ often means the IRC server could not verify ident.

Why it matters

Some channels ban users with unverified ident masks, for example:

*!~*@*

If a strict channel uses that ban, your join can fail even when the BNC connection itself is working.

Is Eggy BNC broken?

Not necessarily. Many IRC networks still allow ~ident users. Some strict channels do not.

What to do

Check whether the problem affects one channel or the whole network. If only one channel rejects you, it is probably channel policy. If multiple networks show unexpected identity issues, open a ticket with your WHOIS line.
