Eggy Web BNC will no longer display or retain unauthorised #Eggy channels on third-party IRC networks following deliberate channel-registration squatting.
Some users have deliberately registered #Eggy on third-party IRC networks after noticing that Eggy Web BNC previously joined a channel with that name whenever WebChat was launched.
These third-party channels are not operated, authorised or supported by Eggy Network, even where they display the Eggy name, use eggy.net in their topic, or otherwise attempt to appear official.
The automatic channel behaviour unintentionally made these registrations more visible and created an opportunity for individuals to squat the Eggy name. This should have been addressed much earlier, and we have now applied a permanent patch to prevent the feature from encouraging further abuse.
What has changed
Eggy Web BNC will no longer show or retain #Eggy when it appears on a third-party IRC network.
This change only affects unauthorised third-party uses of the channel name. The official #Eggy community channel on Eggy Network remains available as normal.
Identifying official Eggy channels
A channel called #Eggy on another IRC network should not be treated as an official Eggy Network service.
Eggy Network does not provide support through third-party #Eggy channels, and their operators are not authorised to represent Eggy, administer Eggy accounts, or request account information from our users.

Users should never provide their Eggy password, dashboard credentials, launch links, private account information or security details to anyone operating an unofficial channel.
Protecting the Eggy identity
Registering channels that use the Eggy name or domain without permission may mislead users into believing that those channels are controlled by Eggy Network.
We will continue reviewing unauthorised use of the Eggy identity and may restrict accounts where there is credible evidence of deliberate impersonation, channel squatting or attempts to mislead users.
This patch ensures that Eggy Web BNC no longer gives visibility to those channels and makes the distinction between official Eggy services and unrelated third-party registrations clear.
