Premium is completely optional. The core Eggy BNC service remains free, and free users can still use the main BNC features without needing to upgrade.
The Premium trial is for users who want more customisation, more flexibility, and extra dashboard features while also helping support the free service.
What Premium adds
Eggy BNC Premium is designed for users who want more control over their BNC account.
One of the main Premium features is custom Real Name support.
On IRC, your Real Name, also known as GECOS, can appear in WHOIS information depending on the IRC network and client being used.
Free accounts use the default Eggy BNC identity. Premium gives users the option to customise that Real Name field while Premium is active.
This is useful for users who want a more personal IRC identity, a cleaner display name, or a custom message connected to their BNC account.
IRC Inbox
Premium also includes IRC Inbox features.
IRC Inbox is designed to help users keep track of private messages sent to their BNC from people on IRC.
A BNC stays connected even when your own IRC client is closed. That is one of the main reasons people use a BNC, but it also means messages can sometimes arrive while you are away from your client.
IRC Inbox gives you a dashboard area where those PM-style message threads can be easier to review.

Premium also supports dashboard replies where enabled.
This means users can reply to IRC Inbox PM threads directly from the Eggy BNC dashboard.
The reply is sent through the BNC system, so you can respond without needing to immediately open a desktop IRC client.
This is especially useful if you are checking your BNC from a browser, switching devices, or quickly replying while away from your usual IRC setup.
WebChat and IRC Inbox work well together
Eggy BNC WebChat lets users launch browser IRC through their saved BNC networks.

Core free features remain free
Premium does not remove the free service.
Free Eggy BNC accounts remain available and continue to include the core features needed to use the service.
Free users can still create a BNC account, log in to the dashboard, manage their account details, change their password, manage their email, choose an approved vhost, manage their user IRC networks within the free allowance, use the protected Eggy support network, launch WebChat, read support information, and use ticket support where available.
The free service remains the foundation of Eggy BNC.
Premium is simply an optional upgrade for users who want more features or want to support the project.
Why Premium helps
Running a free BNC service still has real costs.
There are servers, bandwidth, maintenance, development time, testing, security fixes, support, monitoring, backups, and ongoing improvements.
Premium helps support those costs while allowing the core BNC service to stay free.
That means users who want extra features can upgrade, while users who only need the free service can continue using Eggy BNC without paying.
7-day free trial
The Premium trial gives users 7 days to try Premium features before billing begins.
After the trial, Premium continues at $1.99 per month unless cancelled before billing starts.
The trial is handled through PayPal, so users can review and approve the subscription before starting.
There is no charge today when starting the 7-day trial.
What happens if Premium is cancelled
If Premium is cancelled, expires, or payment fails, the account returns to the free allowance.
Free accounts can keep up to 3 user-managed IRC networks plus the protected Eggy support network.
If a Premium account has extra user-managed networks above the free allowance, those extra networks may be scheduled for removal after the downgrade grace period if Premium is not renewed.
Custom Real Name / GECOS is also reset back to the default Eggy BNC identity.
Affected IRC networks may reconnect so IRC servers receive the updated default identity.
This keeps the free service fair while still giving Premium users more flexibility while Premium is active.
Who Premium is for
Premium is best for users who want more control over their IRC identity, want to use IRC Inbox to check PMs sent to their BNC, want dashboard replies for those PMs where enabled, want more dashboard features, or want to support Eggy BNC running costs.
Free users do not need Premium to keep using the main BNC service.
