Password and Account Security Improvements for Eggy BNC

Eggy BNC password changes now update both your dashboard login and your live ZNC/BNC password. This update also improves WebChat password handling, account email management, and user feedback while account changes are saving.

Eggy BNC security illustration

Eggy BNC has received an important account security update focused on password handling, email management, and clearer dashboard feedback.

This update is designed to make account changes safer and easier to understand, especially when changing the password used for both the dashboard and your live BNC connection.

Password changes now update both dashboard and BNC access

Your Eggy BNC password is important because it is used for more than one thing.

It protects your dashboard login, and it is also the password your IRC client uses when connecting to your live BNC account.

The dashboard password change flow has now been improved so both sides are updated together.

When you change your password from the dashboard, Eggy BNC updates your live ZNC/BNC password first. Only after the live BNC password update succeeds does the dashboard update your stored dashboard password hash.

This order is important because it avoids a mismatch where your dashboard password changes but your live BNC password does not.

The goal is simple: once the password update succeeds, your dashboard login and your BNC connection password should match.

Current password verification

Before changing your password, the dashboard asks for your current password.

This helps confirm that the person making the change already has access to the account.

If the current password is wrong, the password change will not continue.

If the new password does not meet the dashboard rules, the change will also be rejected before it reaches the live BNC helper.

This gives users a safer and more predictable password update flow.

What happens after changing your password

After your password is changed, your IRC client must use the new password.

If your IRC client is still using the old password, it may fail to reconnect or may show authentication errors.

You should update the saved BNC password in any IRC client you use.

This includes desktop clients, mobile IRC clients, scripts, bots, or any other software that connects through your Eggy BNC account.

WebChat may ask for your new password again

Eggy BNC WebChat can remember your BNC password for the current dashboard session only.

After changing your password, any remembered WebChat password is cleared so WebChat does not keep trying to use an old password.

This means WebChat may ask you to enter the new password again after a password change.

That is expected and intentional.

The password is not placed in the WebChat URL. The dashboard uses a password prompt so the launch can happen without exposing the password in the browser address bar.

Account email management

The dashboard also includes email management.

Your email address helps with account recovery, support ticket follow-up, important service notices, and future account-related communication.

Your email is private. It is not shown on IRC and it does not affect your nickname, ident, real name, vhost, or public IRC identity.

Keeping your email current makes it easier to verify and support your account if something goes wrong.

Better feedback while changes are saving

Some dashboard actions take a few seconds because they need to update live BNC settings or talk to the helper system.

To make this clearer, dashboard buttons now show activity text while a request is being processed.

For example, account and service buttons may show messages such as Saving, Updating, Checking, Opening, or Reconnecting.

This helps users know the dashboard is working and prevents repeated clicks while a request is already running.

Why this matters

A BNC account is not just a website login.

It is also part of your IRC connection.

That means password handling must be reliable, predictable, and clear.

This update improves the account flow by making sure password changes are applied to the live BNC first, dashboard storage is only updated after success, WebChat does not keep stale password details, and users get better feedback when actions are running.

For users, the result is a safer and easier account management experience.

What users should do

If you change your password from changes are applied to the live BNC first, dashboard storage is only updated after success, WebChat does not keep stale password details, and users get better feedback when actions are running.

For users, the result is a safer and easier account management experience.

What users should do

If you change your password from the dashboard, update your IRC client with the new password straight away.

If WebChat asks for the password again after a password change, enter the new password.

If you have connection trouble after changing your password, check that your IRC client is not still using the old one.
